DeKalb County Cares
DeKalb County Cares started as a service to the DeKalb Community to honor the memory of Harold L Overton.

Harold was born and raised in DeKalb, IL. He served as a Sergeant in that community at the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office for 22 years before retiring. Prior to his career with the Sheriff's Office, Harold was a Demolition Diver for the US Navy. As a Veteran he served as the Past Commander of the American Legion, member of the VFW, AMVETS and DAV. He enjoyed everything about the town and was very proud to live and serve this community.

His family and friends wanted to continue to help serve the community in his memory. They formed a partnership with the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office to provide a small drawstring bag of books to any child deputies encounter in a traumatic situation. Books can help open a line of instant communication and trust so the deputies can provide the help and support any child needs in these circumstances.

Our goal is simple...to help foster trust and communication betwen the children of DeKalb County and the Deputies who serve it.
